Real Salt Lake have continued their strong recent record against New York Red Bulls with a 2-0 victory at a windy Rio Tinto Stadium.
Fabian Espindola broke the deadlock with his second goal of the season on 39 minutes, as he latched on to Paulo Junior's flick-on and calmly slotted below Ryan Meara.
Thierry Henry wasted numerous chances to equalise for Red Bulls and they were punished just before the hour-mark.
Rookie Sebastian Velasquez collected a through ball in the area and squared to Espindola. His shot was blocked by Meara and Luis Gil blasted home the rebound.
New York have now lost both of their opening MLS matches. Their next fixture is against Chivas USA on March 24.
