Aston Villa have confirmed that they are in "advanced" discussions with French club Rennes regarding Jean Makoun.
The midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Villa starting lineup since joining from Lyon in January 2011.
As a result, he spent the majority of last season on loan with Greek side Olympiakos.
Following Villa's revelation this afternoon, it appears that the Cameroon international could be close to sealing another season-long loan switch away from Villa Park.
