Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has said that his club need to strengthen their attacking department during the January transfer window due to his lack of options in that area of the field.
Spurs have been missing Richarlison and Wilson Odobert for long stages of this season through injury, while Dominic Solanke was not available for the clash with Fulham on Sunday due to illness.
Postecoglou was asked about his lack of options during his press conference to preview Thursday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth, and the Spurs head coach admitted that the squad is thin when it comes to the attacking spots.
"Yeah, there is no doubt because when you add Wilson to that, even Mikey [Moore], we had Dom out at the weekend, you hope that alleviates," the Australian told reporters.
"With Wilson it's long-term, hopefully Mikey by the turn of year will be back as well, but he's 17. With Richy it has been frustrating because I see the potential in him and to be fair when he's been fit he's always made an impact, for me anyway. I think back to the start of last year and when he came back into the team during the year he went on a scoring run.
Postecoglou wants attacking additions in January
"Even the little games he's played this year, he's made an impact. So, you know, that's what you kind of hold on to, but there's no doubt we need some bolstering in that front third over the next couple of transfer windows.
"Dom coming in has been great, but again we can't overload him either, because ultimately, you know, even if he stays fit and nothing happens, performance will invariably drop if his energy levels drop. So it's something we're aware of and need to plan for."
Brennan Johnson is Tottenham's leading goalscorer this season with 10, while Solanke has scored six times in 17 appearances during his first season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
James Maddison has five, while Son Heung-min has netted four, but Dejan Kulusevski has only scored twice despite putting in a number of impressive performances during the 2024-25 campaign.
Will Solanke make Tottenham return against Bournemouth?
Postecoglou is hopeful that Solanke will be available for selection against his former club on Thursday.
"Everyone from the weekend got through ok, Archie [Gray] obviously got a knock but he's recovered well. Dom's due to train today, he's still not 100% but he's definitely improved from the weekend, so we'll see how he goes through training today. The other injured guys are inching closer but not available," said the head coach.
Solanke has four goals and two assists in 10 Premier League appearances for Spurs, while he has scored twice and provided one assist in five outings in the Europa League.
Tottenham are currently seventh in the Premier League table, picking up 20 points from their opening 13 matches of the campaign courtesy of a record of six wins, two draws and five defeats. body check tags ::
