Real Salt Lake secured a home win over Seattle Sounders thanks to strikes from Robbie Findlay and Luis Gil.
The hosts should have been in the lead in the eighth minute but Michael Gspurning made two good saves first to deny Devon Sandoval then Sebastian Velasquez.
They did take the lead seconds later as the Sounders failed to clear the danger from a cross and Findlay was there to tap the loose ball home.
Gspurning kept the visitors in the game when he saved from Sandoval again while Gil following up had an effort blocked on the line.
Gil did get his goal to double the home side's lead as he dove to latch on Ned Grabavoy's cross to head past Gspurning.
The visitors could have got a goal back straight away after the break but Eddie Johnson saw his effort saved by Nick Rimando.
Seattle did get one back when Brad Evans fired in a volley from the edge of the area which hit the post before it nestled in the back of the net.
The Sounders pressed to get an equaliser but Real Salt Lake held out for the win.
