Daniele De Rossi has said that Roma were "too cocky" ahead of their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich last season.
The Giallorossi went into their match against the German champions in good form, but they suffered a 7-1 defeat and subsequently failed to make it out of the group stages.
De Rossi has since admitted that his team approached the game in the wrong manner, but he believes that they can use the experience to help them in their European campaign this season.
"I attended the press conference before the Bayern Munich match and I was optimistic," he told Sky Sport Italia.
"After that game, we all agreed that we had played too open in the match at the Olimpico. We were too cocky and we said we'd play differently in the reverse fixture.
"That experience can help us going forward and perhaps this season we'll be able to cause problems for teams of that level."
Roma begin their new Serie A campaign with a clash against Hellas Verona on August 23.
