Daniele De Rossi has apologised to Roma supporters for tonight's 7-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, which he described as a "dagger in the heart".
Rudi Garcia's side were blown away by the Bavarians at the Stadio Olimpico as a goal-laden first-half display saw the visitors lead 5-0 at the break.
"We are sorry for our supporters," De Rossi told Sky Sport Italia. "It was like a dagger into the heart for them. The whole city was waiting for this game.
"Bayern have 90% of the team who won the World Cup, but we could have done better. They were physically better than us."
Pep Guardiola's side led 4-0 on the half-hour mark thanks to goals from Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and a brace from Arjen Robben.
Thomas Muller then made it five before Gervinho reduced the arrears on 66 minutes, but Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri were on hand to complete the rout late on.
