Sampdoria have edged Livorno to earn their first win of the season in Serie A, thanks largely to a penalty deep into stoppage time from Nicola Pozzi.
The visitors made a strong start and were awarded their first spot kick after 19 minutes when Joseph Duncan brought down Lorenzo De Silvestri as he darted free in the box.
Eder sent Francesco Bardi the wrong way with a composed spot kick to put Sampdoria ahead, a lead that lasted deep into the second half.
Livorno thought that they had snatched a point in the last minute of normal time when Luca Siligardi's powerful strike was parried into the net by Angelo da Costa.
With six minutes of added time there was still time for a controversial finish, though, as Livorno conceded a second spot kick thanks to a trip from Andrea Luci in the 96th minute.
Pozzi took over penalty duties and delivered under pressure, beating Bardi's despairing dive to ease the pressure on Samp coach Delio Rossi.
