San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake have played out a 3-3 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, California in the MLS.
The hosts surged ahead as early as the sixth minute when Chris Wondolowski turned in from close range after collecting Victor Bernardez's delivery.
However, Jeff Cassar's side restored parity just five minutes later through Kyle Beckerman, who fired home past Jon Busch from outside the box after being teed up by Joao Plata.
Plata himself etched his name on the scoresheet for Real just past the half-hour mark when he latched onto Luis Gil's through-ball and shot home from inside the San Jose penalty area.
It became 3-0 to the visitors four minutes into first-half stoppage time, thanks to Luke Mulholland's close-range effort.
Steven Lenhart, Wondolowski, Shea Salinas and J.J. Koval went close for San Jose as the second half progressed, but all were thwarted by Real goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
However, Rimando failed to prevent Bernardez from making it 3-2 in the 75th minute when the 31-year-old headed home Salinas's corner.
A minute later Real's Alvaro Saborio was denied by the post, and that proved to be crucial as Bernardez secured a point for San Jose in the fifth minute of injury time with his second goal of the match.
