SBV Excelsior ended their two-game winless run in the Eredivisie thanks to a 3-0 victory at home to high-flying Heerenveen.
The hosts made the breakthrough with just 10 minutes on the clock when Luigi Bruins showed neat feet inside the box before placing the ball into the far corner.
Their lead was doubled five minutes after the restart as Tom van Weert arrived at the near post to flick home a cross from the right.
Heerenveen piled the pressure on Excelsior during the remainder of the match as they looked to give themselves a lifeline, but Henk Veerman was thwarted twice by goalkeeper Alessandro Damen.
The visitors were made to pay for those squandered chances late on when Kevin Vermeulen found the net for his second goal in four games.
