Schalke 04 have moved above Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga with a 2-1 home win against them.
The hosts started the game strongly as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar found himself one-on-one, but he was adjudged to be in an offside position from Jefferson Farfan's through-ball.
Chinedu Obasi then set up Kevin-Prince Boateng with a headed pass, but the Ghanaian's shot from the left side of the box was tipped around the post by Diego Benaglio.
The pressure started to build, and after a couple of corners in a row, Schalke took the lead when Felipe Santana met Boateng's delivery with a fine low header.
Wolfsburg came back into the game, but could not find a way past Ralf Fahrmann. Patrick Ochs tested him with a shot before Naldo headed over five minutes later.
The away team's chances of mounting a comeback appeared to dwindle early in the half when Daniel Caligiuri was shown a straight red card.
However, they were level on 65 minutes when Maximilian Arnold finished off a move with a finish from close range.
There was not going to be a dramatic win for the away side, though, as Boateng scored with nine minutes to play to take all three points.
