Gordon Strachan "disappointed" by Scotland's defeat to Germany

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan admits that he thought his side could beat Germany during their 2-1 defeat to the World Cup winners.

Gordon Strachan has admitted that he thought Scotland could win at one point during their defeat to Germany this evening.

The world champions needed two goals from Thomas Muller to secure a 2-1 win over the Scots, who finished the match with 10 men after Charlie Mulgrew was sent off in stoppage time.

The manager told Sky Sports News: "I feel disappointed for the people who came to watch us, and the players as well. To have put in that kind of work, going out there against really physical players, they stood up to it.

"Germany were going to make chances, that was going to happen, but we played with a real freedom in the second half.

"I thought we would get a point and I actually thought we would win it at one stage. There were no points, we had the performance but the next game is a big game and we will look forward to that challenge when it comes round."

Scotland will face Georgia and Poland in their next qualifiers in October.
