Scotland move onto 10 points in Group D with a 6-1 win over Gibraltar in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

Scotland have moved onto 10 points in Group D courtesy of a 6-1 victory over Gibraltar in their Euro 2016 qualifier at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Steven Fletcher scored a hat-trick for the home side in a match that also saw Gibraltar register their first Group D goal.

After nine minutes, Gibraltar almost took the lead in incredible fashion when Joseph Chipolina delivered a cross which threatened to catch out Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall at his near post, but the stopper managed to claw clear.

The lively Liam Walker then dragged an effort wide for the visitors during an end-to-end opening 15 minutes in Scotland.

Scotland had their first penalty after 17 minutes when Jamie Robba brought Shaun Maloney to the ground inside the box. Maloney took charge of the resulting spot kick and buried his effort into the bottom corner.

Less than two minutes later, however, Gibraltar were level as Lee Casciaro finished into the bottom corner following a swift counter to cap a famous moment for the nation.

The hosts scored their second after 29 minutes when Steven Fletcher flicked a header into the bottom corner for his first Scotland goal since 2009.

Another penalty was to follow when Steven Naismith was felled by Lee Casciaro inside the box and Maloney netted his second spot kick of the game to send the hosts 3-1 ahead.

Steven Fletcher then hit the post for Scotland, before a fourth goal arrived in the 39th minute when Naismith turned a low cross from Ikechi Anya into the bottom corner.

The opening 10 minutes of the second period brought few chances, but Scotland remained in control of possession in front of their own supporters. Steven Fletcher had a good chance to score his second of the night just before the hour, but the forward could not convert a low cross from Alan Hutton.

Both teams made changes as the second period gathered pace, with the action in the final third suffering as a direct result. Barry Bannan hit one from outside the box after 75 minutes, but the midfielder's effort was always moving high of the crossbar, before Jordan Rhodes hit the side netting from a difficult angle.

There was to be two more for Scotland in the final 15 minutes, however, and they both came for Steven Fletcher as the forward completed a famous treble for the hosts.
