Andrew Robertson: 'Strike against England quickly forgotten about'

Andrew Robertson says that he would have swapped his first Scotland goal for a clean sheet in Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat against England.

Scotland defender Andrew Robertson has said that his first international goal was overshadowed by a 'disappointing' team performance against England on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old set up what looked to be a nervy finish for the Three Lions when he tucked the ball away seven minutes from time, although Wayne Rooney added his second of the night shortly after to secure the victory.

Despite getting off the mark for his country, the defender insists that the goal was quickly forgotten in the context of a 3-1 defeat in the friendly at Celtic Park.

"I didn't get much sleep," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "I went straight home and straight to bed, but there was a lot of tossing and turning. I was more trying to think about my defensive performance, not the goal. I'll find out in time about being able to reflect on the goal but for now it's at the back of my mind.

"I'm more disappointed about the overall performance and my own performance. It's tough one. A normal person would probably have been delighted to score against England to get their first goal for Scotland. But I've already forgotten about it. We got beat 3-1 and that's the most annoying thing for me.

"I thought I could have done better personally in a defensive sense. And first and foremost I am a defender. So if I could have swapped the goal for a clean sheet I would have taken it. I was obviously delighted to see it hit the back of the net. It was a proud moment for me and my family."

Robertson joined Hull City for a fee of £2.85m from Dundee United in the summer.
