Obafemi Martins netted twice as Seattle Sounders thumped 10-man Orlando City 4-0 at CenturyLink Field tonight.
The ex-Newcastle United hitman needed only 17 minutes to open the scoring as he blasted past Tally Hall from 12 yards to give Seattle an ideal start.
It seemed certain to go from bad to worse for City on 29 minutes when David Mateos fouled Chad Marshall to concede a penalty, but Hall kept out Martins's effort.
The feel-good factor soon lifted, though, and the visitors' hopes of leaving with anything suffered a blow when Tyler Turner was issued with a second yellow card on 40 minutes.
It did not take long for the hosts to capitalise, as Nelson Valdez rose highest to head home Erik Friberg's cross early in the second half as the Sounders were cruising.
Martins then added a third by turning home a loose ball from three yards out after the hour mark for what looked like the final nail in Orlando's coffin.
However, Thomas struck in stoppage time to cap a resounding win for Sigi Schmid and co.
