Sevilla midfielder Sebastian Cristoforo has been ruled out of action for six months after scans revealed that he had suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The Uruguayan completed Sunday's 4-1 win over Real Valladolid, but subsequent scans revealed the seriousness of the damage suffered during the league clash.
The 20-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, but according to reports in Spain, a period of six months will be needed for the attacker to make a full recovery.
Cristoforo, who has made 15 appearances for Uruguay Under-20s, joined Sevilla from Penarol in 2013.
