Sevilla have moved level on points with fourth-placed Valencia in La Liga after beating Levante 2-1
It took the visitors just 10 minutes to break the deadlock as Jose Antonio Reyes fired a pass in to Kevin Gameiro, who created space on the edge of the box before firing a low effort into the bottom corner.
Despite the early setback, Levante matched Sevilla for long spells of the first half and were almost back on level terms when Nabil El Zhar tested Sergio Rico with a powerful strike.
However, Sevilla scored a crucial second before the break when Gameiro collected a loose ball in a promising position before teeing up Reyes to allow his teammate to slot home.
Levante should have reduced the deficit early in the second half when Kalu Uche chipped the ball past Rico, but El Zhar could only slice over from close range under pressure from Nicolas Pareja.
Sevilla struggled to relieve the pressure as Levante dominated for long spells, with Rico being forced into action to keep out a shot from substitute Jose Mari.
The hosts were finally rewarded as they set up a dramatic finish through Uche, whose miscued volley left Rico helpless after Ruben Garcia's dangerous ball into the box.
It was Sevilla who had the best of the late chances when Carlos Bacca rattled the crossbar, and the visitors held on to boost their bid for Champions League qualification.
