First-half goals from Victor Anichebe and Youssouf Mulumbu fired West Bromwich Albion to a 2-1 win in their pre-season friendly with Shrewsbury Town tonight.
Anichebe broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when he tucked home Stephane Sessegnon's smart cross.
Though Alan Irvine's side were controlling the game, Shrewsbury found themselves level on the half-hour mark when Scott Vernon slid home the equaliser from close range.
However, Shrewsbury were only level for four minutes as another neat pass from Sessegnon found Mulumbu, who confidently slotted the ball beyond Mark Halstead from 10 yards.
Shrewsbury should have been level again on the hour mark when substitute James Collins teed up Ashley Vincent, but the winger could only fire tamely at Luke Daniels in the West Bromwich goal.
