The only goal of the game at Stade Auguste-Bonal came just past the half-hour mark.
Giovanni Sio sent Sloan Privat through on goal for the forward to score from the centre of the Lorient box with his left foot.
The victory sees Sochaux climb up to 16th in the league table with 37 points from 35 matches, while Lorient are now seventh.
