Southampton defender Jose Fonte has described leading his side out against Vitesse in Thursday's Europa League clash as one of the proudest moments of his career.
The Portuguese international signed for the Saints in 2010, when they were languishing in League One.
He has since seen his side rise back up the leagues and into the top flight, culminating in European qualification last season.
Fonte told BBC Sport: "We have come a long way from League One but since 2010 we have been on an amazing journey and today was one of the proudest moments of my career leading the team out in Europe.
"This is a competition we take very seriously and this is a chance for us do well. We are an ambitious group."
Thursday night's third qualifying round first-leg clash at St Mary's, which ended 3-0 to Southampton, was the South Coast club's first European game since 2003, and their first European win for 34 years.
