Southampton defender Cedric Soares has outlined his ambition to become to a "surprise" package at the club this season.
The 23-year-old signed for the Saints in a £4.7m deal from Sporting Lisbon, and he is now determined to make an impact with Ronald Koeman's men to ensure his side maintain the high level of their performances from last season.
He told the club's official website: "Football is about players going out and players going in. There are a lot of new challenges and of course new players bring new ideas.
"Then it's a question of doing the best I can my way that suits the needs of the team and also still be myself. That's my idea. Teams are already expecting a high level from us, so they will respect us more. It means maybe there will be more attention so we need to be better and surprise them.
"It happened at my old team, a little bit like this. We were already a big team but one year it was bad and the next was very good. Then the next year after we needed to do better .We are always trying to do better. Now the target, the goal, has to be higher and the level has to be higher. Our target has to be to do better than last year."
The Saints open their Premier League campaign against Newcastle United at St James' Park next weekend.
