Southampton ran out 2-0 winners over Burnley, getting back on track after a period of poor form.

The home side started the game the better of the two, pressuring Burnley as they threatened to take an early lead. Southampton did just that on the 8th minute when Lallana's header, from a Richardson cross, looped over Grant to make it 1-0.

Southampton went forward again after 12 mintues, when Fox robbed Trippier and pulled it back for Lambert, whose fierce first time effort was turned round the post by Grant.

From the resulting corner, Lambert headed towards goal only for Marney to clear it off the line. On 25 minutes, Burnley had their first chance from a 25-yard Treacy volley that was saved comfortably by David.

The Saints got their second on 33 minutes from a Ben Mee own goal. The Burnley player inadvertantly put it in his own net as he tried to cut out Lambert's ball to Sharp.

Burnley had a shout for a penalty in the 40th minute when Fox appeared to have tugged him back, however the referee was unimpressed.

Southampton finished the first half on top and looked good for their 2-0 lead.

As the second half began, Burnley eased into the game much more and threatened to push forward. However, Southampton were equal to everything as the game began to get much more tight.

Both sides struggled to dominate at any stage, with the Saints happy to see out the game and take the three points.
