Chris Wood starts up front for Burnley in their trip to Southampton.

Chris Wood will start up front for Burnley in their trip to Southampton this afternoon.

Sean Dyche makes just the one change from the 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Monday evening as he looks to extend his side's best start to a top-flight season since 1973.

Wood returns to spearhead the attack after overcoming a hamstring injury, with Ashley Barnes dropping down to the bench to make room.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady will operate on either wing, with Jack Cork, Jeff Hendrick and Steven Defour in the midfield.

Nick Pope keeps his place between the sticks as Tom Heaton continues to recover from a shoulder injury, while Matthew Lowton, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee and Stephen Ward make up an unchanged back four.

As for the Saints, Mauricio Pellegrino makes two changes to his starting XI following the 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday, seeking to build on their three-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

The headline news is the return of Nathan Redmond on the right wing, with James Ward-Prowse dropping down to the bench as a result.

Redmond joins Dusan Tadic and Sofiane Boufal as attacking support for Manolo Gabbiadini up front, while Steven Davis and Oriol Romeu are expected to play slightly deeper ahead of the back four.

Maya Yoshida comes in for Wesley Hoedt in the heart of the defence alongside skipper Virgil van Dijk, with Cedric Soares at right-back, Ryan Bertrand on the left and Fraser Forster in goal.

Southampton: Forster; Soares, van Dijk, Yoshida, Bertrand; Davis, Romeu; Redmond, Tadic, Boufal; Gabbiadini
Subs: McCarthy, Hoedt, McQueen, Hojbjerg, Ward-Prowse, Long, Austin

Burnley: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward; Gudmundsson, Cork, Hendrick, Defour, Brady; Wood
Subs: Arfield, Barnes, Westwood, Long, Vokes, Bardsley, Lindegaard
