Southend United manager Phil Brown has expressed his relief after watching his side pick up their first league win of the season.
Adam Barrett and Noel Hunt found the net as the Shrimpers saw off Peterborough United 2-1 at Roots Hall.
"It's obviously a relief. We got the result and it gives the lads the confidence they need at this level," Brown told reporters.
"It's not just the players we've brought in, it's those who were plying their trade in League Two last year. It's about these players convincing themselves than can now play at this level and not be embarrassed by it.
"After getting this win I also think we'll also get more respect from the opposition now. But we could and probably should have won more comfortably."
Marcus Maddison netted a late consolation for Posh, who have now slipped below Southend in League One.
