Former Charlton Athletic striker Tommy Mooney scored the winner as Southend United beat the Addicks 2-1 in a friendly tonight.
The Championship side had the first chance of the game as Karlan Grant cut the ball back for Callum Harriott, but he blazed it over the bar.
Southend struck first though as Anthony Wordsworth slipped the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Nick Pope, but Mikhail Kennedy equalised two minutes later with a cool finish.
However, the home side regained the lead in the second half after a sustained period of pressure as David Worrall set up Mooney to head the ball past substitute keeper Dimitar Mitov.
The Bulgarian was then forced into a double save to prevent Mooney from having a second as Southend looked to wrap up victory, before Charlton went close to equalising through a Harry Lennon header.
The London side went close again through Tareiq Holmes-Dennis as his cross was tipped over the bar, but they eventually fell to defeat.
