Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that he doesn't understand why English clubs do not treat the Europa League as a priority.
The Tottenham Hotspur manager recently spoke of his admiration for the competition and believes that it's viewed as a "punishment" for Premier League teams.
"The profile of the competition is raised in other countries, but not England," said Villas-Boas. "I don't understand it. I'm also not in a position to criticise other managers' approach to the competition.
"I respect the competition. I certainly think it is viewed as a punishment in England and I cannot understand why. It is a traditional trophy."
Villas-Boas is expected to name a strong team for the trip to Panathinaikos on Thursday evening.
