Harry Kane's 89th-minute penalty rescues a 2-2 draw for Tottenham Hotspur in their FA Cup third-round meeting with Leicester City at White Hart Lane.

A controversial penalty from Harry Kane in the 89th minute has earned Tottenham Hotspur a replay from their FA Cup third-round clash with Leicester City this evening.

The Foxes looked to be on course to eliminate Spurs from the competition for a second consecutive season, but Kane's 50th goal for the hosts rescued a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane.

The match was just nine minutes old when Spurs took the lead as Kasper Schmeichel could only parry Nacer Chadli's shot into the path of Christian Eriksen, who took a touch before burying his finish into the bottom corner.

Eriksen threatened another when his dipping free kick was once again unconvincingly swatted away by Schmeichel, but it was Leicester who got the game's second goal against the run of play moments later.

Demarai Gray, making his Leicester debut following his move from Birmingham City earlier this week, swung a corner into the box that Marcin Wasilewski met with a glancing header to steer the ball past Michel Vorm.

Schmeichel continued to atone for his earlier error when he denied Eriksen once more shortly after the goal, and at the other end Vorm was almost guilty of his own mistake as his poor clearance fell straight to Andy King, who couldn't beat the Spurs keeper with his deflected effort.

It was the visiting shot-stopper who was the busier of the two, however, and he was called into action again 10 minutes before the break when he collected Eric Dier's awkward effort at the second attempt.

Claudio Ranieri decided to bring on Shinji Okazaki at the interval, and the sub made an immediate impact when he danced his way into the box before firing a second effort in off the post after his first had been saved by Vorm.

Chadli twice threatened to level things up for Spurs to no avail before Leicester hit Spurs with one of their trademark counter-attacks, only for Nathan Dyer to drag his low strike narrowly wide of the target.

The visitors came even closer to a third just after the hour mark when Gray looked to mark his promising debut with a goal, sending a deflected strike inches past Vorm's far post.

Nabil Bentaleb and Dele Alli both came close to grabbing an equaliser before it finally arrived with just one minute of normal time remaining when Kane slammed a spot kick past the keeper to rescue a replay.

The decision was a contentious one as Dyer inadvertently handled the ball when trying to block Danny Rose, but Bobby Madley pointed at the spot and Kane took full advantage of the lucky break.

The two sides will renew acquaintances on Wednesday when Leicester again make the trip to North London for a Premier League clash.
