Harry Kane's record vs. Newcastle United

Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Harry Kane's record against the Magpies.

Tottenham Hotspur will aim to return from the international break with a bang when Newcastle United make the journey to North London for Sunday afternoon's Premier League encounter.

Antonio Conte's side most recently saw off fellow Champions League hopefuls West Ham United 3-1 in the capital and remain three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal having played a game more.

Talisman Harry Kane enters the game having just been crowned the Premier League's Player of the Month for March, and the England skipper is partial to a goal in this fixture.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Kane's record against the Magpies.

Very few had heard of Harry Kane prior to 2014, but the now-England skipper made his first appearance against Newcastle in the first week of the 2012-13 season - a late five-minute cameo as Spurs slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

Not until October 2014 would Kane feature against Newcastle again, and Spurs suffered another 2-1 loss at White Hart Lane before the Englishman netted in a 3-1 win at St James' Park towards the end of the campaign.

Kane would also score Spurs' third of four goals in a 4-0 EFL Cup quarter-final romping of Newcastle that year, although he was seemingly still a bad luck charm in 2015-16, as Spurs suffered back-to-back league losses to Newcastle home and away.

However, the results and the goals would soon come for Kane against Newcastle, as he netted the only goal in a 1-0 home win in 2017-18 prior to netting a brace at St James' Park in a 3-1 success during the behind-closed-doors era in 2020.

Tottenham could only take two points from two draws with Newcastle last season, but Kane nevertheless still managed to bag an assist for Lucas Moura's opener in the first game before hitting both goals in the following 2-2 stalemate.

Nuno Espirito Santo's Spurs had to be on the ball to overcome a Newcastle side buoyed by the news of their recent takeover back in October, but Kane's goal and assist in that 3-2 win helped the North London club on their way to all three points.

A record of eight goals and two assists in 14 matches with Newcastle in all competitions does not make the Magpies one of Kane's favourite sides to face, but seven of those goal contributions have come in his last four top-flight appearances versus Eddie Howe's side.

However, Kane has only ever scored once in the Premier League at home to Newcastle, and such a statistic may need to be improved if Spurs are to overcome the resurgent Magpies this time around.
