A penalty from Roberto Soldado has given Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 lead against Stoke City at half time at White Hart Lane.
Spurs had the majority of the early possession, but had to wait until the 17th minute for their first real chance of the match when Emmanuel Adebayor scuffed his finish before Soldado struck his shot straight at Thomas Sorensen.
Sorensen has to remain sharp in the Stoke goal as the home side continued to send in crosses, but the keeper made sure that they did not reach their intended targets.
The Potters' best chance of the first half came just after the half-hour mark when Oussama Assaidi found himself in space in the box, but he lost out to Michael Dawson just before getting his shot away.
However, Tottenham were able to break the deadlock shortly before half time when Ryan Shawcross handled the ball in the box, allowing Soldado to convert from the penalty spot.
Stoke appeared to respond well, with Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters seeing plenty of the ball in the final five minutes, but the visitors could not get back on level terms before the half-time whistle.
