Tottenham Hotspur team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

:Headline: Tottenham Hotspur team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United:
Sports Mole rounds up Tottenham Hotspur's injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
Sports Mole

At risk of losing a fourth Premier League home game on the spin, Tottenham Hotspur seek to lift their Christmas curse when Newcastle United visit their North London home on Sunday afternoon.

For the fifth game running, Ange Postecoglou's side took the lead against West Ham United only to let three points pass them by, as Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse cancelled out Cristian Romero's header in a 2-1 loss for the Lilywhites.

With only one point under their belt from their last 15 on offer in the Premier League, Tottenham remain outside of the Champions League spots in fifth place, now nine points adrift of leaders and bitter adversaries Arsenal.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Tottenham's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Newcastle, who suffered a similarly chastening midweek experience in a 3-0 loss to Everton.

Son Heung-min

Status: Minor doubt
Type of issue: Unspecified
Possible return date: December 10 (vs. Newcastle)

Son Heung-min was visibly struggling with some sort of injury before being taken off in the dying embers of Spurs' loss to West Ham, and it remains to be seen if he is risked for the clash with the Magpies.

Eric Dier

Status: Out
Type of issue: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

Eric Dier has been forced to sit out Tottenham's last two games with a groin injury sustained in training, and Postecoglou has affirmed that the defender will need to be carefully managed, ruling him out of the visit of Newcastle.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Status: Out
Type of issue: Ankle
Possible return date: January 30 (vs. Brentford)

Having made a complete recovery from his ACL injury, the unfortunate Rodrigo Bentancur is back in the treatment room with an ankle problem, and the Uruguay international will not return until the end of January in the best-case scenario.

Ashley Phillips

Status: Out
Type of issue: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Teenage defender Ashley Phillips sustained an ankle issue during the most recent international hiatus too, and there is currently no indication when the England youth international will be ready to compete again.

Micky van de Ven

Status: Out
Type of issue: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 14 (vs. Manchester United)

Micky van de Ven has proved to be an astute summer signing, but the Dutch defender is currently out with a hamstring problem and will not return for another few weeks yet.

James Maddison

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: January 14 (vs. Manchester United)

James Maddison came off at the same time as Van de Ven against Chelsea last month owing to a severe ankle problem, and the playmaker is also understood to be targeting a return in the middle of January.

Ivan Perisic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Ivan Perisic will be the last name out of the Tottenham infirmary as he continues his rehabilitation from a severe ACL injury, which may spell the end of his Lilywhites career.

Manor Solomon

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: January 14 (vs. Manchester United)

Manor Solomon has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury in training at the start of October, and the former Fulham loanee should also be back in the middle of January if his recovery goes to plan.

Ryan Sessegnon

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Ryan Sessegnon has not been seen in a Tottenham jersey this season due to a hamstring operation, and Postecoglou still cannot give an estimated date for the Englishman's comeback.

Alfie Whiteman

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Over the summer, backup goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman sustained a horrific ankle injury, sustaining a fracture and torn ligaments, and he will not be returning for some time yet.
