How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Brentford

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for their EFL Cup semi-final tie against Brentford.

Tottenham Hotspur play host to Brentford on Tuesday evening looking to move a step closer to their first EFL Cup triumph since 2008.

After benefitting from being given a bye against Leyton Orient, Spurs have come through ties versus Chelsea and Stoke City to reach the semi-finals.

While this competition is generally considered to be far down the priority list of the bigger clubs, Jose Mourinho will select a strong side for the game with the in-form Championship outfit.

Here, Sports Mole predicts how Spurs could line up for the fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Out: Gareth Bale (calf), Giovani Lo Celso (hamstring), Matt Doherty (suspended)

With a trip to non-league Marine in the FA Cup on Sunday, Mourinho will feel comfortable in selecting many of his star players for this contest.

While Son Heung-min and Harry Kane should keep their roles in the team, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura could be recalled in place of Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn.

A further alteration is likely to be made in midfield with Moussa Sissoko getting the nod ahead of either Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Harry Winks.

Matt Doherty will miss out for Spurs after receiving two yellow cards against Leeds United, putting Serge Aurier in line to make his first appearance since December 20.

On the opposite side of the defence, Ben Davies may keep his place on the back of Sergio Reguilon being one of three players to break coronavirus regulation over Christmas.

Although Mourinho may stick with the partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier, it would come as a surprise if Davinson Sanchez does not come back into the team.

Giovani Lo Celso and Gareth Bale miss out with hamstring and calf injuries respectively.
