Christian Eriksen scores a late goal to give Tottenham Hotspur a 3-2 aggregate win in their League Cup semi-final against Sheffield United.

Christian Eriksen scored a late winner as Tottenham Hotspur survived a spirited fightback from Sheffield United to win 3-2 on aggregate and book their place in the League Cup final.

Spurs had led 1-0 following last week's first leg and a 2-2 draw this evening thanks to the Dane's late goal has earned them a Wembley showdown with Chelsea.

The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock early on when Michel Vorm spilled a cross into the path of Jamie Murphy, who then saw his effort cleared off the line by Kyle Walker.

Spurs soon threatened down the other of the end of the pitch and after working some room on the edge of the box, Harry Kane drilled an effort into Mark Howard's arms.

Ryan Mason was next to test Howard with a fierce attempt from range, but the keeper ended up making a comfortable save.

The visitors began to take command of the tie and Kane drilled a strike against the outside of the post from a tight angle.

Spurs finally made their dominance count just before the half-hour mark, as Christian Eriksen curled a free kick into the top corner and beyond the stranded Howard.

Kane saw another strike blocked at the near post by the keeper, before Marc McNulty drilled wide for the hosts, as Spurs held on to their two-goal advantage in the tie going into the break.

Within a minute of the second half Spurs were close to doubling their lead, but after working some room inside the box, Kane pulled his low strike wide of the near post.

Spurs continued to dominate the match, but in the 77th minute the hosts pulled a goal back when Che Adams arrived at the back post to slot in from Ryan Flynn's cross.

Two minutes later Adams struck again, as he was picked out by Murphy inside the box and fired in a strike that took a huge deflection off Eric Dier before finding the corner.

The hosts very nearly scored a third when Louis Reed volleyed in a strike from the edge of the box that went inches over the bar.

With the game heading towards extra time, Spurs regained their lead in the tie as Eriksen was slid through by Kane, before placing an effort into the bottom corner.

The hosts tried to respond once again, but there was not enough time to score a third goal and the visitors sealed their place in the first cup final of the season.
