Tottenham Hotspur took "a massive step in the right direction" by overcoming Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, says former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Tottenham Hotspur took "a massive step in the right direction" by overcoming Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, according to former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Alvaro Morata sent Chelsea ahead in the 30th minute of the Premier League clash, but Christian Eriksen levelled for Tottenham late in the first period before a second-half double from Dele Alli secured all the points for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The result has seen fourth-placed Tottenham move eight points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table, and Jenas has spoken of the importance of securing Champions League football for the 2018-19 campaign.

"It's imperative having Champions League football for Spurs at the new stadium next season. It's also about the lure of being able to attract the best players to the club," Jenas told BBC Sport.

"They can go into the new stadium with a great feeling off the back of what they have created in the last few years. Today was a massive step in the right direction."

Next up for Tottenham in the Premier League is a trip to struggling Stoke City next weekend.
