Crystal Palace out to avoid equalling unwanted losing record against Tottenham Hotspur

Crystal Palace are looking to avoid equalling an unwanted Premier League losing record against Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Saturday.

Crystal Palace will look to avoid equalling an unwanted Premier League club record when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Eagles will make the trip across London on the back of a fine 3-0 win over Burnley last weekend in Oliver Glasner's first game in charge.

Glasner watched on as his new Palace side drew 1-1 with Everton a week earlier, just hours after Roy Hodgson was forced to step aside due a health issue.

A dominant performance saw Palace cruise to an eventual comfortable victory over the Clarets, thanks to second-half goals from Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Palace will need to extend their current mini-unbeaten run if they want to avoid matching an unwanted club feat in North London this weekend though.

The visitors will go into the fixture having lost on their last eight trips to Tottenham, and should Ange Postecoglou's side inflict a ninth straight defeat on Palace, it will match their previous record for most consecutive losses away to a single opponent.

That came against Manchester United between 1992 and 2017, before a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in November 2018 eventually ended that barren run.

Palace took confidence from that and would go on to win their next two away to United, and they also won there earlier this season thanks to Joachim Andersen's spectacular effort.

Followers of the Eagles have to go back to 2014 for the last time that they left a fixture away to Spurs with anything, when they drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane under Neil Warnock in their second season back in the top flight.

Since then, apart from an FA Cup last-16 win in 2016, Palace have lost on each trip by an aggregate score of 17-1, with that solitary goal coming in a 4-1 behind-closed-doors defeat in 2021.

While Palace picked up a draw in their last Premier League away outing, it is now eight games without a win on the road, a run that included a four-game losing spell before the point at Everton.

However, Glasner may look to exploit fragility in the Spurs ranks after they lost their last fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to Wolverhampton Wanderers two weeks ago.

Spurs have been largely strong in North London this season though, taking 27 points from a possible 39 on home soil so far.

This weekend's hosts also got the upper hand over Palace in the reverse fixture back in October, when a Joel Ward own goal and a strike from Heung-min Son helped Spurs to a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park. body check tags ::
