Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose can't believe that Jan Vertonghan had a goal ruled out for offside when replays show he was four yards onside.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has said that he can't believe that Jan Vertonghan had a goal disallowed for offside during his side's 2-1 win over Sunderland.

Christian Eriksen put Spurs ahead late on and, while Sunderland pushed everyone forward for an equaliser, Vertonghen seemed to score a late third when he put the ball in the net from 45 yards before discovering it was ruled out for offside.

Rose told reporters: "When the game was going on, I couldn't quite see where Jan was when the ball had been played. But we've just looked now in the changing rooms and, I'm not being funny, but it was a shocking decision.

"I thought Jan was offside given how quickly the linesman has put his flag up but, as I said, we've seen it in the changing room and Jan was four yards in his own half."

Tottenham next face Sheffield United in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.
