Ange Postecolgou sets Tottenham silverware objective for new season

:Headline: Ange Postecolgou sets Tottenham silverware objective for new season:
Ange Postecoglou is hoping to end Tottenham Hotspur's 16-year wait for silverware in his second season as a Premier League manager.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has outlined his goal to win silverware in his second season in charge.

Postecoglou led Spurs to a fifth-placed Premier League finish in his first season, with inconsistency ultimately costing Tottenham a top-four spot.

Although they missed out on the Champions League, Postecoglou would have taken a number of positives from his first season as he laid the foundations for what he hopes will be a successful 2024-25 campaign.

Postecoglou has made significant changes to his squad this summer, offloading players that he has deemed surplus to requirements while strengthening his options with several additions.

Spurs have completed the permanent signings of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert, while Timo Werner has returned on loan from RB Leipzig.

Postecoglou targeting trophies

Having had three transfer windows to mould a squad in his image, Postecoglou is hoping that his side can end Tottenham's 16-year wait for silverware.

Speaking prior to Solanke and Odobert's arrivals, the Australian was asked how he felt ahead of his second season as a Premier League manager.

"People can go off and discover them and their childhood and not have to speak about mine anymore," Postecoglou told Sky Sports. "People can go off and discover them and their childhood and not have to speak about mine anymore.

"Usually in my second season, I win things. That's the whole idea. First year is about establishing principles and creating a foundation. Hopefully, the second year is going onto win things. Of course it's easier said than done, particularly in the Premier League and the competition we're in.

"That's always the way I've looked at it, is that the second year you should be in a position where you can push on, depending on how the first year has gone.

"Last year we had some really good moments, obviously we had some tough moments. I think we learnt as much from the tough moments as we did from the good stuff and hopefully, that means we're in a good place. We're definitely a better-prepared team than we were last year."

Postecoglou's history of winning trophies

Postecoglou was unable to clinch silverware in his first season in North London, but he has had plenty of experience of winning trophies in his managerial career.

The 59-year-old oversaw a treble-winning season in his second and final campaign at Celtic, guiding the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup, adding to the double that he completed in his first season at Celtic Park.

Postecoglou also won silverware during his time with South Melbourne and the Australia Under-17 and Under-20 sides.

He also won the A-League title with Brisbane Roar, the Asian Cup with Australia and the J1 League with Yokohama F Marinos.

Postecoglou will hope that those experiences can help him in his bid to lead Tottenham to their first trophy since winning the EFL Cup in 2007-08.

Tottenham will get their campaign up and running when they travel to the King Power Stadium for Monday's clash with newly-promoted Leicester City. body check tags ::
