Andros Townsend has urged Tottenham Hotspur supporters to be patient with the team during frustrating matches.
Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas caused some controversy on Sunday when he questioned the support within White Hart Lane after the 1-0 victory over Hull City.
However, Townsend has backed his manager by claiming it is difficult for the side to break down teams that are only focused on defending.
"It was difficult against a team that sets up with five defenders and four midfielders, all behind the ball," the England winger told reporters. "We tried to play the football, the opposition wouldn't let us with their system and tactics, but our persistence paid off and we got the win, that's all that matters.
"It's difficult and sometimes it will take 70, 80 minutes to get the goal. Thankfully, we got the goal we deserved because we were the only team going for it."
Spurs are currently fourth in the Premier League.
