England winger Andros Townsend says that it is a "dream come true" to mark his first cap at international level with a goal.

Tottenham Hotspur and England winger Andros Townsend has described scoring on his international debut as a "dream come true" following his strike in the 4-1 victory over Montenegro.

Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson was swiftly vindicated in his decision to include the 22-year-old in his starting lineup, as the Spurs starlet bagged a goal and an assist in a man-of-the-match display which saw off their Group H rivals.

Speaking to Spurs' official website, Townsend revealed that the realisation of marking his first appearance for the senior team is yet to sink in.

"I'm so proud to have represented my country and to play well and score really is a dream come true," Townsend told Spurs' official website.

"I tried to play my normal game and everything went well. The most important thing was the win, it was a huge game.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet. All I'm thinking about is Poland on Tuesday and then it's back to Spurs and preparing for Villa."

The former QPR loanee is in the reckoning to face Poland on Tuesday, before turning his attentions toward domestic duties with Spurs for the visit to Aston Villa next weekend.
