Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 27-year-old made the move to Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2020, and he has represented the North London club on 145 occasions, scoring 10 goals and registering 16 assists in the process.
The Denmark international was again a vital player for Tottenham last season, featuring 44 times in all competitions, contributing five goals and seven assists.
The midfielder has another two years left to run on his contract, meanwhile, but there has been speculation surrounding his future during the summer market.
Atletico are said to be admirers of the Dane, and according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Diego Simeone's side recently made an opening offer for the midfielder.
Moretto claims that the Red and Whites placed a bid of €20m (£17m) on the table, which was quickly rejected by Tottenham.
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Hojbjerg was actively seeking a move to Wanda Metropolitano, with the midfielder looking for a change at this stage of his career.
There will be no European football at Tottenham next season, with the capital outfit finishing down in eighth position in the 2022-23 Premier League table.
However, Atletico will again be present in the leading European cup competition and will also be looking to launch a challenge for the La Liga title.
Atletico have been active this summer, signing Javi Galan and Santiago Mourino from Celta Vigo and Racing Club respectively, while Caglar Soyuncu and Cesar Azpilicueta have arrived on free transfers.
Spurs, on the other hand, have boosted their squad with the arrivals of James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Guglielmo Vicario, while Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have joined on permanent deals.
Tottenham are also still battling to keep hold of Harry Kane this summer, with Bayern Munich preparing to step up their interest in the England captain.
Executives from the German outfit will allegedly meet with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Monday to discuss a possible move to Allianz Arena before the end of the transfer window.
Atletico boss Simeone, meanwhile, has expressed a desire to keep hold of Yannick Carrasco this summer amid the speculation surrounding the Belgium international. body check tags ::
