Napoli have reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen as a potential replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly.
Vertonghen has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs under Jose Mourinho this season, and is out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer with no renewal in sight.
Should the Belgium international depart North London when his current deal runs out, Napoli could reportedly make a swoop for the centre-back if Koulibaly was to leave the Italian outfit at the end of the season.
Speaking to Area Napoli, Italian journalist Cosimo Silva has claimed that Vertonghen's international counterpart Dries Mertens has "sponsored" a potential transfer for the Spurs defender.
Twenty-eight-year old Koulibaly has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford in recent weeks, having played 15 league games for Napoli as they sit sixth in the Serie A table.
Vertonghen has chalked up 18 Premier League appearances for the Lilywhites this season, and has made a total of 309 appearances for the club since his arrival in 2012.
