Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Sarr has reportedly agreed a new six-year contract with the North London giants.

The Senegal international burst onto the scene with Metz before penning a permanent deal with Spurs in the summer of 2021, although he spent the 2021-22 season back on loan with Les Grenats.

After linking up with his new Lilywhites teammates at Hotspur Way, Sarr struggled to get into Antonio Conte's good books, finding himself behind Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield pecking order.

Sarr made just 17 appearances in his first season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - including a mere two Premier League starts - but he has been given a new lease of life under Ange Postecoglou in 2023-24.

Linking arms with Yves Bissouma - another midfielder who was a bit-part player under Conte but is thriving under Postecoglou - Sarr has scored two goals and set up two more from 19 appearances in all competitions this season.

The 21-year-old scored his first Premier League goal in the second weekend of the season against Manchester United, before coming up with his side's opening goal in their 3-1 win over Bournemouth on New Year's Eve.

After featuring from the off in just two top-flight games throughout the whole of last season, Sarr has earned 16 Premier League starts already this term and has been integral to Spurs' early title charge.

The Senegal international - who is due to represent his country at the African Cup of Nations this month - is under contract in North London until 2026, but according to Sky Sports News, his deal will soon be renewed.

As a reward for his growing influence on the team, the report claims that Sarr will put pen to paper on a new six-year deal with Tottenham, keeping him on the books until the end of the 2029-30 campaign.

Confirmation of Sarr's renewal is expected to arrive imminently, and he will become the third Tottenham player to extend his stay this season alongside Fraser Forster and Destiny Udogie.

The former Metz youngster has a total of two goals and three assists to show from 33 first-team games for Tottenham, although he went off with a hamstring injury after opening the scoring in Sunday's win over Bournemouth.

With AFCON on the horizon, Sarr was inconsolable as he left the field, although Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is still hopeful that the midfielder will be able to link up with his country later this month.

"Hard to say. Pape felt his hamstring and he's emotional because he wants to go away with his national team. It's a big tournament for them," Postecoglou told reporters after the game.

"It's kind of the way our season has gone. He was so good again early in the game, apart from his goal, and then he gets an injury. Disappointing for him but I am hoping it is not too serious and he can still go away and contribute to his country."

Spurs occupy fifth place in the Premier League table and play their first game of 2024 on Friday, when Burnley head to North London for an FA Cup third-round fixture.
