Mauricio Pochettino reiterates Eric Dier's desire to remain at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that Eric Dier has never once told him that he is unhappy at the club, contrary to recent press reports.

Mauricio Pochettino has again insisted that Eric Dier is content with life at Tottenham Hotspur, despite rumours that he is seeking a move away from the club.

The England international has been used in a number of positions this term, being fielded as a full-back, centre-back and also in his favoured defensive midfield role.

Dier's inability to hold down a regular position in the side led to suggestions that he would switch club in January, with German giants Bayern Munich reportedly monitoring the situation, but Pochettino claimed earlier this week that there was little substance to the rumours.

Speaking to reporters ahead of this weekend's meeting with Burnley at White Hart Lane, the Spurs boss has reiterated that Dier has never once aired his grievances over his current role at the club.

"I never hear from him that he wasn't happy," he said. "When Eric was playing like a midfielder, centre-back, full-back, he has never come to say to me, 'I'm not happy to play in that position'. We are talking about rumours so it's too difficult to say things.

"Eric Dier, for me, he's 22 years old, he's a player that arrived as a 19-year-old here and after two years and a half, he has played more than 40 games every season. Like all the younger players, sometimes you can use him in a different position but his quality... he's a player that can play in a different position and that is important for every coach.

"We'll see in the future which position can give his best football but for me he's a player that can play as a centre-back, a midfielder, sometimes like a full-back. The most important thing for the young players is to be in the starting XI and play and try to improve with regular games."

Dier has started 12 of Tottenham's 16 Premier League games this term, while also featuring five times in the Champions League and once in the EFL Cup.
