Harry Redknapp has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy promised Luka Modric that he would allow him join Real Madrid this summer.
Modric, 26, wanted to join Chelsea 12 months ago, but Levy and then-manager Redknapp persuaded him to sign a new contract at White Hart Lane.
"I would not be sure Luka would start the season at Tottenham," said Redknapp. "The club would be happy to sell if they get the right money.
"The chairman said to him last year 'Give us one more season and if Real come in I won't stand in your way.'"
Spurs and Real have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £35m for Modric, however the two clubs are said to be in disagreement over how the payment is made.
