Jermain Defoe insists confidence is high

England forward Jermain Defoe backs his side to produce a confident and professional display against Montenegro in tomorrow night's crucial World Cup qualifier.

England striker Jermain Defoe has declared that morale is high in Roy Hodgson's squad ahead of tomorrow night's trip to Montenegro.

Defoe scored twice last Friday in the 8-0 stroll past San Marino and has insisted that the win was a worthwhile exercise for the Three Lions.

With a tough test against group leaders Montenegro ahead, the Tottenham Hotspur forward believes that England are capable of securing a crucial victory.

He told The Mirror: "It's good for confidence. Sometimes you play in games like this and it can be a horrible game when you don't play well but still win. But we had a good result and a good performance and that's very encouraging.

"All the things we worked on in training came off and it all went well, so the manager is happy. The lads are more than experienced to go into a second game and do the same.

"Obviously it will be a tougher game but with the players we have and how we're playing at the minute I think we can do the same."

The 30-year-old's brace against San Marino marked his first goals for club or country since last December.
