A first-half strike from Brown Ideye has given West Bromwich Albion a 1-0 lead over Stoke City at The Hawthorns in the Premier League this afternoon.
The hosts came close to opening the scoring in the first five minutes when Saido Berahino picked the ball up in midfield before running at the goal and unleashing a powerful low strike, but Asmir Begovic managed to tip it wide.
The England international continued to cause problems for Stoke as he avoided a couple of challenges to carve out the space for another shot, but it was held by the keeper again.
It was Ideye who put the Baggies ahead though as Craig Gardner crossed the ball in towards the striker, who managed to hold off Phil Bardsley to head into the corner.
West Brom thought that they had doubled their lead when Begovic spilled the ball for Ideye to tap in, but the striker had been in an offside position before the initial ball came in, so it was chalked off.
