Former Liverpool player John Barnes believes that Michael Owen could take on a role in TV punditry following his retirement announcement.
The 33-year-old will hang up his boots at the end of the season following stints at Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City, where he will finish his career.
"Forget about what he could have achieved if he hadn't suffered so many injuries, it's what he has achieved," Barnes told BBC Radio Five Live. "He's had one of the best careers anyone could hope for. I'm sure he has many options as to where he goes from here.
"He is very intelligent and speaks very well. I know he loves horse racing and I know he wants to spend more time there. But I'm sure he could carve out a career if there was an opportunity to become a pundit."
Owen is England's fourth all-time goalscorer with 40 to his name.
