Mark Hughes: 'The Britannia Stadium can be a fortress'

Stoke boss Mark Hughes urges his troops to make the Britannia Stadium a "fortress again" following two home defeats so far this season.

Mark Hughes has challenged his Stoke City team to make the Britannia Stadium a "fortress again" after losing both of their home games this season.

The Potters went down 1-0 to both Aston Villa and Leicester City as Stoke are yet to win a point on home soil.

City won 34 of their 45 points at the Britannia under Tony Pulis in the 2008-09 campaign, and Hughes wants his troops to replicate that form for the remainder of this season.

"We have not got a point on home soil at the moment but we have another chance to put that right on Monday," he told reporters.

"The match against Aston Villa was a poor performance but we improved greatly against Leicester and I was more happy with the level of form that we showed in that match.

"Our away form has been very good recently - towards the end of last season and into this one. We are all working hard in training and looking to make the Britannia a fortress again."

Stoke host Newcastle United on Monday night.
