Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant has been questioned by police and charged with drink-driving and driving while disqualified and without insurance.
The charge is relating to an incident that occurred near his home in Hale, Cheshire, where the 29-year-old's white BMW crashed into a silver Audi in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A police spokesman said: "A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and disqualified driving. He remains in police custody for questioning.
"The driver of the Audi was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening."
Pennant is due to face Trafford magistrates on May 9.
