Stoke City skipper Ryan Shawcross has admitted that he hopes that goalkeeper Jack Butland enjoys a long career at the club.
Butland is due to make his first competitive start for England against Lithuania on Monday and Shawcross has suggested that he wants the 22-year-old to build a definitive club legacy at the Potters.
"It's good for Jack and it's good for the club to have him involved with England, but he's had an excellent start to the season," Shawcross told The Sentinel.
"We seem to have a problem that if our keepers play so well they move on so we will have to be careful he doesn't have too many saves to make.
"Jack's signed a long contract and he's a top keeper. Hopefully we can keep him for as long as we can."
Butland's Stoke side currently occupy 14th spot in the Premier League standings after eight games of the new season.
