Burnley secured their second Premier League win of the season after edging past Stoke City 2-1 thanks to Danny Ings's first-half brace at the Britannia Stadium.

The England Under-21 striker's quickfire double before the quarter-hour mark shocked the Potters, who set about trying to reduce the deficit immediately.

The Clarets had to hang on desperately as Mark Hughes's charges struck back through Jonathan Walters and powered forward at every opportunity, but Sean Dyche's men were able to hang on for their second win on the bounce.

Goal

Asmir Begovic: At fault for Burnley's first goal as he palmed the ball into the path of Danny Ings, but could do little about the second. Had little to do after that. (5/10)

Defence

Ryan Shawcross: Was not entirely responsible for the first goal, but Ings beat him with ease on the way to his second. (5/10)

Phil Bardsley: Was beaten by Ashley Barnes for the opener and caught out of position for the second goal. Despite growing into the game, the hosts never recovered. (4/10)

Geoff Cameron: Lacklustre performance at the back. He could have done better for both goals. (5/10)

Marc Muniesa: Was not as bad as his teammates at the back, and pushed forward from time to time. (6/10)

Midfield

Steve Sidwell: A below-par performance from the former Reading man, with opposition midfielder David Jones getting the better of him on various occasions. Also booked. (5/10)

Victor Moses: Like the rest of the team, started badly, but as the game went on, troubled Heaton on a few occasions. His dive in the Clarets box towards the end of the first half was not nice to see, however. (5/10)

Steven N'Zonzi: Was dangerous when Stoke pushed forward, making very good runs into the box, but largley toothless in front of goal. (6/10)

Jonathan Walters: Scored a good diving header to make things tense for the visitors, and was unlucky to add to his tally. Stoke's best performer this afternoon. (7/10)

Bojan Krkic: Sent a fine cross the way of Walters for Stoke's goal, but was inconsistent despite showing nice skill on occasions. (6/10)

Attack

Mame Biram Diouf: Largely anonymous, and missed a good chance to pull his side level. (5/10)

Substitutes

Marko Arnautovic: Had a good spell where he troubled the opposition defense and produced a fair bit of attacking output. (6/10)

Peter Crouch: Made more of a difference when he came on for the ineffective Diouf, and worked hard, but ultimately it was not to be. (6/10)

Charlie Adam: Had a few pops at goal when he came on, but, like the rest of his teammates, they were audacious and largley ineffective. (6/10)

Goal

Tom Heaton: Commanded his area well and was dependable when he had to make saves, steadfast in the face of Stoke's siege. Unlucky not to save Walters' header. (8/10)

Defence

Michael Duff: Strong in the air and in the tackle, but was found out when Walters struck his goal. (6/10)

Jason Shackell: Possibly the weakest of the Burnley back line today. Looked error prone at times when the team cleared their lines. (5/10)

Kieran Trippier: Had Diouf in his back pocket and, despite struggling a tad against Crouch when the former England man came on, was still strong at the back. (7/10)

Stephen Ward: Made several good interceptions, including a vital one in the second half, and was solid throughout. (7/10)

Midfield

David Jones: A catalyst in helping the forward line break from midfield. An impressive performance. (7/10)

Dean Marney: Was impervious in midfield. Helped track back when needed and was solid throughout. (7/10)

Michael Kightly: His cross to set up Ings was a work of art, despite the hosts making it too easy for him, and he also tracked back when needed. (8/10)

George Boyd: Appeared indecisive at times and his delivery let him down. Made some good runs, but could not provide good service. (6/10)

Attack

Ashley Barnes: A constant threat up front, and tracked back when needed. Played a vital part in Burnley's first. (7/10)

Danny Ings: A great brace for the striker, who is brimming with confidence following his great performance - complete with two more goals - for the England Under-21 friendly against Portugal last week. Clinical and made the most of his chances. (8/10)

Substitutes

Lukas Jutkiewicz: Came on for Kightly on the hour, but had very little impact, failing to do much on the few occasions that Burnley were able to get the ball out of their third. (6/10)

Steven Reid: Came on for Ings in the last few minutes and helped them see the game out. (6/10)

Michael Keane: Came on for Duff in the final stages and made a couple of good clearing headers. (6/10)
