Stoke City defender Marc Muniesa admits that he might be forced to leave the Potters in January in order to secure first-team football.

Stoke City defender Marc Muniesa has admitted that he might be forced to leave the Potters in the January transfer window in search of first-team football.

The 24-year-old, who moved to England after leaving Barcelona at the end of the 2012-13 campaign, has not started a single Premier League game for Stoke this season.

The former Spain Under-21 international has insisted that he is not content with sitting on the bench and will look for an exit at the start of 2016 if the situation does not change over the next six weeks.

"It's the worst season for me because I haven't played any games. I only played 50 minutes when Bards (Phil Bardsley) got injured against Sunderland," the Stoke Sentinel quote Muniesa as saying.

"I'm working hard and I have to be patient. I'm hungry and I want to play with the first team. It's my fourth season here waiting for my opportunity and, if not, I have to look in January for something.

"We still have a month-and-a-half [to January] and we will have a lot of games, but the club, the manager and me, we will have to look to see the best option for everybody, not just me. I am part of the group and am happy here at Stoke City, but if I don't have the chances maybe I have chances at another place and come back with more experience."

Muniesa, who made four first-team appearances for Barcelona during his time in Spain, signed a new four-year contract with Stoke before the start of the 2015-16 campaign.
